It's a sad day that I'm writing this update.

In 2006 I had an idea to see if we could get the Saskatchewan motorcycle riding Conservation Officers together for a ride.

Four riders got together on a rainy day and the Wardens on Wheels was created. I went to the washroom and was elected President in my absence!

The North American Game Warden Museum at the International Peace Gardens was chosen as a meeting place for future rallies and as a worthy recipient of fund raising.

The first rally had 14 bikes and 16 riders show up and we raised $1,500.00 for the museum.

The rally continued until 2020 when Covid shut down the border and stopped the rally.

In 2022 the rally was back on but attendance dropped to just 3 bikes.

In 2009 some of the Missouri riders started a local rally that they moved around the state from year to year. The Missouri rally continued until Covid shut it down as well.

Through the 16 years that the rally existed we had 232 bikes and 273 riders attend the rally.

Close to $30,000.00 was raised with annual pledges for the Game Warden Museum!

Riders from the provinces of SK, MB and AB attended through the years and from the States of ND, MI, MO, KS, WI, TX, GA, MN, IL and OK.

We had purchased a Banner and only actual Fish and Wildlife, Conservation Officers and Game Wardens were allowed to sign it. There are 54 names on the banner.

Unfortunately, over the years, we have lost a number of people that no longer ride and for the last several years we haven't had any new riders attend the rally.

The sad decision was made to discontinue the rally.

A lot of friendships were made and lots and lots of laughs were had.

We survived being mooned by the Becoming Outdoors Women group and an attack of killer raccoons!

Thank you to all the people that attended and supported the rally, especially the staff at the museum and the museum executive that provided many meals and beverages.

We can be very proud of all the money that was raised to support our museum.

Thanks.

I've been very slow to update the web site. The 2022 Rally was very disappointing to say the least. We had 3 bikes and a '79 Trans Am show up.  It sounds like a lot of riders have hung up the leathers.

Before there is any work done on a 17th Annual Rally, I need to know how much interest there is still out there.

If you plan to attend or know someone that is planning to come, please let me know.

e-mail is robgraingersrus@sasktel.net or text me at 306-821-0541.

Depending on what response there is, we'll make a decision on the future of the rally.

Rally dates will be August 11-13th weekend.

I will update by mid May with what has been decided.

16th Annual Rally, August 12-14, 2022

I am pleased to announce that the 16th Annual Wardens on Wheels Rally is on!

Get your hotel booked. There has been a block of rooms set aside at the Quilt Inn under Wardens on Wheels.  Call  701-263-6500

The campground at Lake Metigoshe has also been reserved. Call Susan at 701-263-4651to book a campsite.

Friday we will gather for supper, most likely at the Dockside restaurant.

Saturday we will meet at the Game Warden Museum for a short meeting and head out for a poker run.

I ask the everyone attending try and bring a poker prize or two.

We will figure out supper on Saturday and I'm sure a wobbly pop or two will be on hand.

The paving stone we had commissioned for Anna has been completed.

We also lost one of our local riders this year. Rich, second from left, lost his battle with Cancer.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the rally. Get the word out and lets try and have a bunch of riders show up, new and old.

Lastly.

With reduced visitation in the last couple years, I think we should all put in a good effort to raise some funds for the Museum.

Getting ready for the 2021 Canadian rally. Phil and Kevin have been working on setting out a ride route for Saturday and gathering info for meals on Friday and Saturday.

We will be camping in the Good Spirit overflow area for those that are tenting.

Rooms may be available at the golf resort and in Yorkton.

Remember, anyone wanting in on the Poker run needs to bring a prize or two. Top hand gets first pick of available prizes.

If riders have gathered pledges for the museum, be sure to bring them along.

2021 Missouri Info

Greetings,

Here are the details of this year’s Warden’s On Wheels-Missouri Chapter Ride.  We’ve altered the agenda a bit from the plans made for last year which was necessarily cancelled.

Friday, June 11 Click each colored link for more info.

We’ll meet and greet at the Arcadia Academy, 211 S. College Ave, Arcadia, MO for dinner at 6:00 pm.  The Academy is one of the lodging choices available described below and some may choose to lodge there.  We’ll provide up-to-date info on what local establishments will be open for breakfast the following day.

Saturday, June 12

At 9:00 am we’ll gather across from the Fort Davidson CafĂ© at a pull off at the Historical Sign at the Fort Davidson State Park.  Have your gas tanks full as we’re trippin’ into the river country of the Northeast edge of the Ozarks.  We’ll first visit Round Spring, north of Eminence on Highway 19, then backtrack just about three miles for lunch at one of Missouri’s newest State Park facilities at Echo Bluff.

After lunch our motorcycle gang might just circle the locally famous Shannon County Courthouse square and “hanging tree” before stopping off at Alley Spring to see if the old mill on the Jack’s Fork is in operation.

We’ll make a stop for gas at Eminence prior to heading back to Ironton on a different route.  This will take us right by Johnson Shut-Ins State Park.  Some who haven’t seen the shut-in formations on the Black River (and even those who have) may choose to stop and visit the site.  Others may choose to return to their lodging for a short rest.  I’m going to pick up the evening’s chow.

We’ll gather again at 6:00pm at the Hitchings Farm, 2187 CR 53, Belleview, MO for a catered meal, fire pit and relaxing.

Sunday, June 13

For those that want breakfast before heading out, we’ll gather at Dezi’s Diner, 104 Pine Street, Arcadia, Mo at 8:00am.

Lodging Options- Motels

There are no “chain” lodging establishments in the Arcadia Valley.  Many are located in Farmington, Missouri, about a 20 minute ride from the Valley.  If you like Mom and Pop type businesses, you’ll be right at home at the Fort Davidson Motel or the Shepherd Mountain InnThe Arcadia Academy also offers a wide range of room options.  I called them all today (5/4/2021) and learned they all have about 50% of their rooms booked that weekend.  The point?  You might want to get reservations ASAP.

                                                                                    Camping

If you’re into camping, the Johnson Shut-ins State Park is great and one of the closest options.

But perhaps the greatest (and cheapest) option is the Hitchings campground.  We have Zoysia grass which is a whole lot softer for tent camping than anywhere else you can find.  We have 110v availabe for guys who want to bring an air conditioner all the way from Kansas.  And if you play your cards right, a shower may be available as well.

And here’s an offer you don’t get every day.  If you’ve ever had a hankering to get a tour of the inside of an active beehive this is your chance.  I enjoy sharing the experience of being among thousands of stinging insects with others.   Seriously, if you are interested in a unique and educational experience plan on either arriving at the Hitchings farm around 4pm Friday or following us home Sunday after breakfast.  A fifteen minute hive tour takes about, oh…fifteen minutes. Protective gear provided for sissies.

P.S.
