It's a sad day that I'm writing this update.
In 2006 I had an idea to see if we could get the Saskatchewan motorcycle riding Conservation Officers together for a ride.
Four riders got together on a rainy day and the Wardens on Wheels was created. I went to the washroom and was elected President in my absence!
The North American Game Warden Museum at the International Peace Gardens was chosen as a meeting place for future rallies and as a worthy recipient of fund raising.
The first rally had 14 bikes and 16 riders show up and we raised $1,500.00 for the museum.
The rally continued until 2020 when Covid shut down the border and stopped the rally.
In 2022 the rally was back on but attendance dropped to just 3 bikes.
In 2009 some of the Missouri riders started a local rally that they moved around the state from year to year. The Missouri rally continued until Covid shut it down as well.
Through the 16 years that the rally existed we had 232 bikes and 273 riders attend the rally.
Close to $30,000.00 was raised with annual pledges for the Game Warden Museum!
Riders from the provinces of SK, MB and AB attended through the years and from the States of ND, MI, MO, KS, WI, TX, GA, MN, IL and OK.
We had purchased a Banner and only actual Fish and Wildlife, Conservation Officers and Game Wardens were allowed to sign it. There are 54 names on the banner.
Unfortunately, over the years, we have lost a number of people that no longer ride and for the last several years we haven't had any new riders attend the rally.
The sad decision was made to discontinue the rally.
A lot of friendships were made and lots and lots of laughs were had.
We survived being mooned by the Becoming Outdoors Women group and an attack of killer raccoons!
Thank you to all the people that attended and supported the rally, especially the staff at the museum and the museum executive that provided many meals and beverages.
We can be very proud of all the money that was raised to support our museum.
Thanks.
Rob Grainger
